Whatever the level, a football dispute nearly always begins with one of these four.
The contract and its clauses
A player contract settles far more than the salary. It fixes the term, the bonuses, the buy-out or termination clause, the image rights and what happens after a long injury. In Belgium the contract of a paid sportsperson follows its own statute, so a clause that would be unremarkable in an ordinary employment contract can be void here. We read the whole text against that statute and against the federation regulations before you sign anything.
Wages that stop arriving
When a club stops paying, the first written notice decides how strong the file becomes. It has to name the amounts, the dates on which they fell due and a clear deadline to pay. Every body that looks at the case afterwards reads that letter first. Act early. A club in financial trouble rarely has a single creditor, and the order in which claims arrive matters.
Discipline and suspensions
A red card, a report by a match official or an investigation into conduct opens a disciplinary file with its own procedure and its own deadlines, counted in days rather than weeks. You are entitled to know the charge, to see the file and to be heard before a decision falls. We prepare the defence, we appear at the hearing and we lodge the appeal within the deadline.
Agents and commission
A dispute between a player and an agent turns on the mandate: what was agreed, for how long, whether it was exclusive, and what commission is owed on which move. A mandate that does not meet the applicable rules can prove unenforceable at the moment it matters most. We check the mandate before it is signed, and we act when commission is claimed from you or withheld from you.
Youth players and their parents
A first contract is often signed while the player is still a minor, and the rules on the protection of young players limit what a club may agree and when a move abroad is allowed at all. Parents sign alongside the player and take on obligations of their own. We explain what the family is actually committing to, and we check the offer against the rules that protect players under eighteen before anyone signs.
