Everest Sports Law offers a sports law internship in Ghent to a motivated law student.
Due to the continued growth within the sports law department of the law firm Everest, we are looking for a motivated law student, whether or not graduated, for four to eight hours a week for several months.
During the internship you will be active within the sports law department, but depending on your interests you will also be introduced to other legal domains.
You will become acquainted with and collaborate on sports files in various sports and domains. We work for athletes as well as for companies, clubs, federations and supporters.
Your duties include the following: drawing up preparatory notes, participating in procedures, writing legal articles / blog posts, monitoring social media, organising events, etc.
We expect an independent and motivated student with an interest and some prior knowledge in sports law. Compensation to be agreed.

Everest has offices in Ghent, Brussels, Antwerp and Bruges, but the sports law department mainly operates from Ghent.
It has much more than the individual lawyer specialised in sports law sports law department within Everest the asset of being embedded within a large and reputed corporate law firm in Belgium (https://www.everest-law.eu/nl). This ensures a unique cross-pollination between the sports department and the other departments – such as the departments of social law, tax law, etc. – with which the athlete, the sports club or the sports federation also comes into contact. This interaction offers the opportunity to offer complete legal guidance to the athlete, sports club, sports federation or even event organizer.
What the sports law internship involves
The work is real file work rather than observation. You research points of law that arise in running files, you read federation regulations and test them against the legislation that applies, and you prepare notes that the lawyer handling the file actually uses. Over a few months you will see contracts, disciplinary files, transfer questions and doping cases, and you will follow at least one file from the first letter through to the decision.
What we look for
A law student or a recent graduate with a genuine interest in sport and in the way it is regulated. You write clearly in Dutch, and you read English and French without difficulty, because the regulations you will be working with are rarely all in one language. Accuracy counts for more than speed here. A deadline read wrongly costs a client the case, so we would rather you check twice and say plainly when you are not certain.
How the work is organised
You work from the Ghent office, inside the sports law department and alongside the lawyers who run the files. Because that department works closely with the employment, tax, corporate and criminal law departments of the firm, you will also see how a sporting question turns into a question of another discipline halfway through. The arrangement is set around your studies and your examination periods.
