A cyclist suspension was lifted by the judge after Everest Sports Law took up the rider’s case.

In recent weeks, Everest Sport represented the interests of a rider whose suspension was ultimately lifted by the judge.

All sports associations are obliged to guarantee at least the minimum rights of defence of athletes.

Het Nieuwsblad requested a response from Everest Sport:

Every federation has to respect the minimum rights of defence, whatever its own regulations say. Everest Sports Law advises riders, clubs and federations on disciplinary law in sport.

The rights of defence in a sports disciplinary case are not a vague principle. An athlete has to know what is alleged, has to see the file, has to be heard, and the decision has to give reasons. A ruling that skips those steps can be set aside, even when the facts are established. We set out those guarantees, the role of the ordinary court and the steps after a summons on our page about disciplinary law in sport.
