Badminton runs on rulebooks from the first day to the last
Belgian badminton is split between two leagues. Badminton Vlaanderen runs the clubs and the competition in Flanders, the Ligue Francophone Belge de Badminton does the same in Wallonia and Brussels. Together they form the national federation, the counterpart of Badminton Europe and of the Badminton World Federation. Each level has its own rules, its own bodies and its own deadlines. We assist players, parents of junior players, coaches, clubs and tournament organisers.
A player who competes abroad enters a second system. The world ranking of the Badminton World Federation, the tournament entry system and the anti-doping rules of that federation shape your calendar and your career. In Belgium, NADO Vlaanderen and the ONAD carry out the testing. A sports case often ends before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. Everest Sports Law handles both tracks.

Tournament entry and admission
A refused entry, a withdrawn registration or an exclusion from the draw costs you points and a place in the calendar. We read the tournament rules and the decision of the organiser or the league, and we file the right objection within the deadline.
Ranking, points and seeding
The national ranking and the world ranking decide your place in the draw and your access to the larger tournaments. We challenge a wrong allocation of points, a result that was never processed or a seeding that does not follow the rulebook.
Selection for European and world events
Selection criteria must be known in advance and applied equally. We test the criteria, the reasons given for the decision and the procedure that was followed, and we run the appeal against a non-selection within the deadline that counts for the event.
Coaching contracts
We draft agreements between player and coach, between club and trainer and between academy and junior player. We settle the fee, the term, the travel and tournament costs, the exclusivity and the notice period, and we act when the cooperation breaks down.
Anti-doping
A test in or out of competition runs under the rules of the Badminton World Federation, the World Anti-Doping Code and NADO Vlaanderen or the ONAD. We assist you from the notification onwards, we guard every deadline and we present the defence before the competent body.
Discipline, conduct and integrity
A complaint about conduct in the hall, an incident with an official or a report of transgressive behaviour opens a disciplinary procedure. We defend players, coaches and clubs, and we protect the right of defence and the access to the file.
How a badminton lawyer in Belgium runs your file
Who decides
Your file starts before the competent body of Badminton Vlaanderen or of the Ligue Francophone Belge de Badminton. An appeal within the national federation follows, in Belgium often before the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport. An international file goes to Badminton Europe, the Badminton World Federation or the CAS.
The deadlines
The deadlines are short. An internal appeal sometimes runs for a few days after the notification. An appeal to the CAS normally runs for twenty-one days, unless the applicable rules say otherwise. A late appeal is inadmissible, however strong your arguments are.

Keep the decision, the tournament rules, the selection criteria and every e-mail, with the date you received it. Fill in no questionnaire from an investigator before you have taken advice. Call or write to us with the date of the decision, and we set the deadline together.
