Volleyball: contracts, transfers and disciplinary cases
Volleyball in Belgium is largely semi-professional. Players and coaches combine the sport with a job or with studies. Sports regulations, employment law and social security therefore overlap in almost every file. Most clubs run as a non-profit association, with a board of volunteers. The rules of Volley Vlaanderen, the FVWB and the Royal Belgian Volleyball Federation shape what a contract may contain, and the Lotto Volley League adds its own licence conditions.
We assist players, coaches, clubs, agents and sponsors in these matters. We also handle international files: transfers to and from other countries, international transfer certificates through the CEV and the FIVB, contracts with foreign clubs, and proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS/TAS) in Lausanne.

Player and coach contracts
We draft contracts and review existing texts: pay, term, notice, bonuses, medical care, housing and termination after an injury. We test every clause against employment law and against the rules of the federation before you sign.
Transfers and transfer certificates
A move to another club follows the deadlines and the forms of the federation. A foreign club adds an international transfer certificate. We watch the timing, negotiate the release with the current club and follow up the request.
Status and social security
Is your player a paid sportsperson, an employee or a volunteer? The answer sets the contributions, the withholding tax and the protection during illness. We map the real situation and put the correct status on paper.
Clubs and non-profit law
We advise clubs on articles of association, director liability, general meetings and internal conflicts. Licence files, the link between the youth academy and the first team, and the transfer of a team also belong here.
Discipline and doping
A referee report, an incident in the hall or a positive test opens a disciplinary procedure with short deadlines. We prepare your defence, attend the hearing and lodge an appeal where that is needed.
Sponsorship and image rights

Who decides
A contract dispute goes to the labour court or the business court. A disciplinary case stays with the federation first. Arbitration can follow, and in international matters the CAS/TAS in Lausanne. We choose the right route together with you.
The deadlines
Sports regulations work with short deadlines, sometimes a few days to lodge an appeal. A missed deadline costs you the case, even when you are right. Send us the decision on the day you receive it.

A transfer abroad or a European campaign adds a second rulebook to your file.
The international transfer certificate
A player who joins a club in another country needs a transfer certificate from the federation he leaves. Without that document the new club cannot register him, and a player who takes the court anyway puts himself and the club at risk of a sanction. We request the certificate in time, we follow up a refusal, and we act when a former club holds the document back to force a payment.
A contract under foreign law
A contract with a foreign club usually names a foreign law and a foreign forum. That single clause decides which protection you keep and where you must go if the club stops paying. We read it before you sign, we check whether a Belgian court still has jurisdiction, and we explain what a judgment obtained abroad is worth in practice.
